| The owners of this home
wanted to make the most of their garden to
provide a place for the children to kick a
ball and run around, as well as creating a
quiet spot for the adults to relax. |

|
To make the most of the
three sets of French Doors that give access
to the garden, we designed a wrap-around
deck that flows around the back and side of
the house. This gives the house a great
indoor-outdoor feel and makes the most of
these access points. |

|
|
| The wide steps leading down
from the deck invite you into the garden to
enjoy the beautiful plants or a game with
the children. Because the garden faces
north, we used plants that can take full sun
arranged against a backdrop of volcanic rock
on the back garden wall. A paved area
provides an easy-care courtyard that's
perfect to add a table setting for alfresco
dining. |

We used a Dragon Tree as
the feature plant in the garden bed,
complemented by several varieties of
Phormium and Yuccas. In the courtyard we
used Olive Trees to create dappled shade,
which we underplanted with herbs and mixed
planting for foliage interest.
